June and September are ideal — warm seas, sunshine, and fewer crowds than the July–August peak. May and October are quieter and great for exploring.

Is Split a good base for the Croatian islands?
Yes — it's the main ferry hub on the Dalmatian coast, with fast boats to Hvar, Brač, Vis, and more. Day trips are easy, or use it to start a longer island route.
Split or Dubrovnik?
Split is bigger, livelier, cheaper, and better connected to islands; Dubrovnik is smaller and more dramatic. Many people visit both, a few hours apart by bus or boat.
How many days do I need?
Two to three for the city, plus extra days if you want to island-hop or see the nearby waterfalls and old towns.
When is the best time to visit?
June and September for warm water without the August crush. Shoulder months are quieter and still pleasant.
